Christoph Willer, born in Mülheim an der Ruhr, received his first piano and organ lessons from his father Karl Willer. After graduating from high school and taking the C exam for church music in 1977, he first studied mathematics and business administration at the University of Bonn. In 1979 he then took up music studies at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf. He studied piano with Prof. Auerswald, organ with Prof. Callhoff and conducting with Profs. Kast and Odenthal, graduating in 1984 with the State Examination for Church Music, followed by the Concert Examination in Organ in 1986. Among several music prizes was the Förderpreis of the Düsseldorf Musikhochschule in 1984.
From 1984 to 1993 he was cantor at St. Clemens in Solingen. Since 1987 he has also been a lecturer at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf in the Institute for Composition and Music Theory.
The artist, who lives in Essen, is a renowned organist and pianist with extensive concert activities. He is also in demand as a conductor in choirs.
Since the winter semester of 2021/22, Christoph Willer has been teaching the following subjects at the Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy in Düsseldorf: acoustics, instrumental theory, improvisation, formal theory and composition.
