Biography

Alan Lee Kirkendall, born in U.S.A., studied at Northwestern University in Chicago with Vincent Cichowicz and with Adolph Herseth. Principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for many years. In 1975 he came to Germany, where he first played with the Kassel State Orchestra for four years before taking the position as principal trumpet of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra in 1979. He co-founded the Philharmonic Brass Quintet and “Frech wie Blech,” the brass ensemble of the Düsseldorf Symphony. Mr. Kirkendall has also been a lecturer at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf since 1998.

Since summer semester 2018, Alan Lee Kirkendall has been a lecturer in trumpet at the Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy in Düsseldorf and since 2021 he has been a lecturer at the Beethoven Conservatorium in Tegelen.
